Public Safety Leader Barron M. Morgan Appointed Kentucky State University Chief of Police

Morgan to oversee campus police, safety operations, and emergency preparedness

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky State University has appointed Barron M. Morgan as chief of police and director of public safety. Morgan, who began his role Aug. 17, 2026, is an accomplished public safety, law enforcement, and security executive with more than 32 years of combined experience in law enforcement, investigations, emergency management, security operations, executive protection, contract management, and organizational leadership.

As part of that broader experience, Morgan served 26 years as an active police officer, including 14 years as a detective with the Louisville Metro Police Department. He also brings a record of leading large-scale security operations, managing government contracts, coordinating emergency response activities, and developing security programs that protect people, property, and critical infrastructure.

“Barron Morgan brings extensive public safety experience and a steady, professional approach to campus security and emergency preparedness,” said Dr. Koffi C. Akakpo, president of Kentucky State University. “His leadership will support Kentucky State University’s continued commitment to providing a safe, welcoming, and student-centered campus environment.”

Since 2012, Morgan has served as owner and founder of Morgan Security Services, LLC, a regional security services provider based in Louisville. The company supports government agencies, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, transportation agencies, military installations, housing authorities, and commercial clients throughout Kentucky and surrounding states.

In that role, Morgan has provided executive leadership and strategic oversight for company operations, including security services, contract administration, workforce management, training programs, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, emergency response planning, disaster response coordination, and client relations.

Earlier in his public safety work, Morgan served with the Minneapolis Police Reserve, assisting with law enforcement, public safety, and community service functions. He also worked in loss prevention in Louisville, conducting investigations, surveillance operations, theft deterrence activities, and security assessments.

Morgan earned a Master of Science in safety, security, and emergency management from Eastern Kentucky University and a Bachelor of Science in justice administration from the University of Louisville.
